b. Erosion

The displacement of soil by wind and flooding waters is called Erosion.The displaced soil then goes into the seas, lakes and dams
Since our country has a semi-arid climate, most of the land lacks flora.Also, most of the land is mountanious.
These are the reasons why erosion occurs so strongly in our country.Pouring rains, deforestation and misusage of land are also reasons of the erosion.
As a result of erosion, the land becomes infertile as the most fertile part of the soil is carried away. Also, some of the soil is carried into the dams, making their lifespans shorter.
Erosion is a very serious problem for our country because agriculture can't be done on land that becomes infertile due to erosion.In an extreme case of erosion, countries might face serious famines.
TEMA(Turkey fight against erosion, afforestation and protection of nature foundation) is founded for the struggle against erosion.It tries to prevent erosion by educating people about erosion.

To prevent erosion;
* Deforestation should be prevented.
* Empty lands should be afforested
* Grasslands should be preserved
* Steep slopes should be terraced
* Stubble left on the fields shouldn't be burned

c. Landslide

The sliding down of big amounts of soil on the slopes is called landslide.Sometimes, parts of the main rock is displaced together with the soil.

The reasons of landslide;
* Too steep slopes
* High amounts of rain and melting snow that makes the ground slippery
* Especially soil with clay becomes very slippery due to rainfall
* The construction or road-building by humans might cause it aswell

The landslides occur in our country most often in spring. The most important reason for that is the melting of snow.
Landslides are most often seen in the Black Sea region, especially in the eastern part of it.
Sometimes, landslides create lakes by covering a flowing river and becoming a natural dam. Lake Sera in Trabzon and Lake Tortum in Erzurum are examples for that kind of lakes.
